Dit Da Jow—literally “fall-and-strike wine”—has long been part of Chinese martial arts medicine.
These traditional topical liniments are made by steeping combinations of medicinal herbs, roots, and resins in alcohol. Martial artists have used different preparations for bruising, soreness, stiffness, and the demands of repeated training.
Within Chinese medicine, the choice of formula depends on the pattern: cooling and calming when heat and tenderness predominate; warming and activating when cold and stiffness predominate.
